Nice.
Chris Bosh Looks Like A Dinosaur:
Did I say the Raptors were going to beat Oklahoma? I lied. They got destroyed. I'm so embarrassed. But hey at least they beat New Jersey right? Right? Anyone? To be honest, who even knew they were playing? Hands up? That's what I thought. There's an interesting article in today's Star, about how Triano needs to man up and bench the players not performing in their Starting Roles. Specifically - Bargnani and Turkoglu. I guess replacing them with Amir Johnson and ... Weems? I guess? Wright? I don't know.
See and that's sort of my point. Who really has played well enough to warrant a promotion to the starting 5? Amir? That's what the mob seems to demand. And I have to agree. I mean he'd probably foul out 7 minutes into the 2nd quater, but the guy flat out hustles and its so obvious what he brings even the mainstream media coverage brings it up on a daily basis. The problem is probably the front office of the Raptors, cough BC cough. Bargs is our number 1 draft from 2006, our GM's decision to pick him ahead of Brandon Roy and Aldridge resonates to this day. And so long as the GM is backing him up - the coach will too...probably.
All in all though, I'd say that switch-a-roo makes the most sense, swallow yo damn pride (you were willing to let Bargs sit for an aging lazy over paid O'Neal, why not sit him for a super value, young, hustling Amir?
And then we have the SF position. So our $50 million Free Agent has underperformed to say the least this year and Toronto is crying for his head, and other more level headed ones demand a benching. "BENCH THE FOO! SEND A MESSAGE YO! WHY AM I TYPING LIKE THIS IN CAPS?" I guess you could put Weems in there, or even Belinelli, the former seems to have great chemistry with our SG Rookie, and the latter seems to be a crowd favorite - due to short bursts of potential...I guess.
So we massively overpay an aging, out of shape, non-committed, complaining, diva of a basketball player who clearly isn't working for his pay cheque and the attitude is everyone wants to bench him? I'm sorry, what does that accomplish again? Well it sends a message right? That we will not accept his level of play and he better shape up! Damn It!
Okay, let me point out a scenario everyone seems to just choose to turn a blind eye to. Say we bench him. That turd. He deserves it. He better wake up I tell ya! Or he'll stay there!
What happens if he calls our bluff? What happens if he says, "Okay, fuck you guys, I'll sit here and get paid".
We put out Weems instead, who's a decent player for sure with tons of potential but no where near a starting SF. Turkoglu sits on the bench, losing stats, numbers, minutes and any appeal whatsoever in leverage for a trade to get him out of here, all the while Toronto continues to lose games out of the playoffs and we lose Bosh the following off season.
Damn. On the other hand? We play him. Pray to the basketball gods he snaps out of this funk. (is age a funk?) Maybe we make it to the playoffs and exit in the first round. We'll probably finish somewhere around 43 wins, a 10 game improvement from last year, while our star Turkey baller earns some decent stats, minutes, and exposure and maybe we trade him in the off season if indeed it does not work out for him and our team.
Am I right? Does that not make sense? Jeez la wheez.
How has no one thought of that? Seriously. Anyone? Throw me a bone here.
Moving On...
The Good:
April is just around the corner, and while some contest that we can still get snow this far into the year, I'm more focused on the Easter Long weekend coming up. Hoo Rah.
The Bad:
W.T.F is this? Check out that short term forecast? Lame Weather Gods. Lame.
The Ugly:
My cell phone bills for the past year. This is kind of old news but is so insane it deserves bringing up again. I've paid about $1600 dollars for the past year for my cell phone, a phone that does not have internet or data plans, simply just texting without a plan. Ugly.
Post Script Or Something
Late start to the day, I had to get my graduation pictures taking today! woo hoo! I was actually in and out in like 5 seconds. I also managed to make a couple hundred bucks at the Student Center by selling old text books that I forgot I even put up for sale there at the Used Book Store. Not a bad way to start the morning if I do say so myself.
It other news...It's weird walking into your student lounge, a place you've probably spent countless hours in over the course of your university career, and maybe knowing 2 or 3 people out of 100. I was like, "No really - I go to this school, I promise!" I've talked to a few people who have encountered similar situations when walking into what use to be 'our' room. I'll reiterate - "It's just weird".
Ending on a more positive note, I caught the 'Reptiles and Amphibians' episode of the documentary 'Life' narrated my Oprah last night on the Discovery Channel last night. It was Neat-oh to say the least. I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff, and it's actually the sequel to the Planet Earth Documentaries which I was a huge fan of. I'm stoked for the other Disney one coming out - Oceans or something?
